Native history is always interesting to anyone, whether they are scholars or tourists, adults or children. The Alaska Native Heritage Center is a famous cultural center and museum located in Anchorage, and offers a plethora of knowledge for those who seek to learn the historical aspects of Alaska and its natives. The eleven Alaskan cultural groups are represented here in full color, with ancient traditions, lifestyles and wisdom shared in-depth for everyone to see. The main objective of the Alaska Native Heritage Center is to help natives keep a bond with their heritage and to improve cross-cultural experiences.

Beginning with the Welcome House, the Alaska Native Heritage Center spreads on to introduce everything and anything that has effected the lives of the natives throughout time. The outdoor facilities are all about exploration and story presentation, while inside the Welcome House, you’ll find different methods of presenting contemporary Alaska. The Alaska Native Heritage Center offers everyone a single location to explore and experience the native way of life.

The Alaska Native Heritage Center was built in 1987 as a non-profit organization for promoting the community and their activities. It’s now accepted as a statewide cultural gathering venue, hosting events, exhibitions, presentations and theater performances regularly. The center includes the Gathering Place, which hosts dancing events, games, storytelling and demonstrations based on native culture, and the Hall of Culture, which features various works from native Alaskans. The theater section is for all types of movies, including those produced by their own Heritage Center. The people, landscape, climates and regions are portrayed in all of these films.

Six authentic native dwelling areas are located outside the center, alongside the Lake Tiulana. As part of the Alaska Native Heritage Center, the dwellings introduce the native lifestyle long ago. The native groups represented are Athabascan, Aleut, Alutiiq, Eyak, Haida, Inupia, Yupik, Tlingit and Tsimshian. Guided tours are available for visitors and liberal photography of the sites, artifacts and structures are allowed. The whale bones display at the Inupia site is very popular.

When you make plans to visit the Alaska Native Heritage Center, take the time to book your Anchorage hotel in advance. You can either select an Anchorage airport hotel for a quick rest before setting out to explore Alaska or opt for the high-end class hotels, such as the Millennium Alaskan Hotel Anchorage. You can easily find a suitable Anchorage hotel if you reserve your rooms before you arrive in Alaska.
